FAQs

What is music therapy?

Music Therapy is an evidence-based practice where a trained, board-certified music therapist uses music — including listening, singing, instrument-play, songwriting, movements, and more — to help people reach their personal goals. These goals can include improving communication, building social skills, expressing emotions, reducing stress, and supporting overall well-being. No musical skills required to engage in music therapy — the focus is on using music as a tool for growth and connection, not on performance.

What kind of work do you specialize in?

I specialize in disability-affirming, trauma-informed care for individuals with disabilities, with a focus on supporting autistic children, teens and young adults. Drawing on my background as a mental health music therapist, I help clients build emotional well-being, self-expression, and confidence. In my work with little ones, I am also DIRFloortime® certified and bring extensive knowledge of child development. Throughout my time as a music therapist, I thrive to be intentional in combining therapeutic approaches with creativity and compassion to meet each person where they are and to help them thrive.

What kind of payment options do you offer?

We are currently awaiting music therapy licensure in North Carolina, which will make it easier to bill insurance for services. In the meantime, there are other payment and scholarship opportunities available in NC that may help cover costs. I am passionate about the importance of accessibility when it comes to therapeutic services like music therapy and would love to chat more with you about opportunities and resources in NC that can help pay for these kinds of services.
